The Green Project was created by the internationally traveled DANCE MONKS in 2003. The project reconnects children to nature through movement and story in the creation of their own original performance, alongside professional dancers. The three month residencies include explorations throughout the gardens and grounds of the school, whereby the environment becomes a vital partner in the creative process. The children are encouraged to discover their own text and movement in a supportive environment.
The Green Tour strives to be ecologically sound in all aspects of production: including the directors' use of bicycles as their sole mode of transportation to all rehearsals, a specially designed trailer for props and costumes made with recycled materials.
Featured Artists:
DANCE MONKS' founding directors, Mirah Moriarty & Rodrigo Esteva, renowned sound artists T-Bird Tall Flame Luv and Laura Inserra, dancer Olivia Eng and students of the Berkeley Arts Magnet School.
"DANCE MONKS' project is highly relevant and in tune with the (Children and Nature) movement..."
